Apple today unveiled all new MacBook that redefines notebook design, but dramatically increases the entry price for the new MacBook. Apple says that the new notebook offers pro-level graphics performance for $700 less, but again the truth is it features a integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card that is better than Intel’s integrated graphics, nonetheless its no where near dedicated graphics card. The laptop has LED-backlit display and new large glass multi-touch trackpad.
“Apple has invented a whole new way of building notebooks from a single block of aluminum. And, just as important, they are the industry’s greenest notebooks,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “The new MacBooks offer incredible features our users will love —like their stunning all-metal design, great 3D graphics and LED backlit displays—at prices up to $700 less than before.”
The new MacBook is just 0.95-inch thick and weighs 4.5 pounds. The base model comes with 2.0GHz processor (why Apple didn’t use 2.23GHz processor?), 2GB DDR3 RAM and 160GB hard drive is price for $1,299. A second model that will feature a faster 2.4GHz processor, 2GB DDR3 RAM and 250GB hard drive is priced $1,599.  Both the models are shipping today.
In our opinion by increasing the price Apple has made the new MacBooks less attractive. Comparable windows laptop with 2.0GHz processor is available for around $1,000 and a laptop with 2.4Ghz processor is available for $1,200 via both Dell and HP. We do understand that Apple is using Aluminum casing and new glass trackpad, but that doesn’t mean that they will charge $300 premium. Below is the complete configuration of the new laptops:

  • 13.3-inch widescreen LED-backlit 1280 x 800 glossy display
  • 2.0 or 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3MB shared L2 cache

  • 2GB 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM, expandable to 4GB
