Apple’s “It’s only rock and roll” iPod event starts in about three hours. It is confirmed that Apple will introduce new iPod lineup. The rumors are Apple will add camera to the iPods and many iPod cases with camera hole have started popping up around the blogosphere. Apple will also drop the price and increase the capacity of some of the iPods like touch and nano. However, latest rumors suggest that Apple might be having problems with the camera module and even though Apple will announce the new iPod lineup today, the new iPods will be delayed a bit.

It is likely that iTunes 9 will be introduced at the event. iTunes 9 will add social networking features and might support Blu-ray playback. Apple will also add a new full-album format codenamed “Cocktail” to the software. iTunes 9 will also bring updated App Store and easier iPhone App management in iTunes. iTunes 9 update will be available for download today after the announcement.

Daring Fireball’s John Gruber has posted that iPod nano might be update with a redesigned case featuring a top-secret new material and it might get FM tuner also. Analyst Ezra Gottheil believes that Apple TV doesn’t sell because it doesn’t support the Web. Apple will fix Apple TV by adding a full web browser that would significantly enhance any home theatre installation. On the other hand, Apple’s CFO has said that Apple TV won’t get DVR or cable card capabilities. It will remain an iTunes only device.

Among all these rumors, Apple today (just few hours before the event) lowered the prices of its complete iPod lineup. The 32GB iPod touch saw a price drop from $399 to $279, the 16GB touch is now priced $249, the 8GB touch dropped to $189, 16GB iPod nano saw a $40 price drop to $149, 8GB nano is now priced $129 and the iPod Classic saw a $20 price drop to $229. Many analysts believe that Apple lowered the priced because the updated iPod lineup that Apple will announce today won’t come to the market soon. The new iPods will be delayed by about a month and ship around October. Apple’s online store is down now with the usual message “We’ll be back soon”.

The Apple iPod event will start in just few hours and we will get answers to all our questions then. Please joins us on for live coverage of the event starting at 10 AM PST / 1 PM EST.
