DigiTimes is reporting that not just iPod touch and iPod nano but also iPod classic is about to receive a camera upgrade in September. It has been rumored that Apple will announce new iPod touch and iPod nano with a camera at a media event on September 9th. It is also rumored that Apple will introduce iTunes 9 upgrade at the same event.

The latest news from DigiTimes says that OmniVision has secured CMOS image senor (CIS) orders for upcoming Apple iPods. According to market sources OmniVision will be the sole supplier of 3.2-megapixel CIS products for new iPod nano, iPod classic and iPod touch models, which will be launched in September. It is expected that OmniVision will ship 18million CIS products to Apple per quarter that will include 3.2-megpixel CIS product for iPhone 3GS also.

If iPod classic also gets camera upgrade in September, it would indicate that Apple believes there is still some life left in the iPod classic lineup and it is not reaching end of life like many blogs predicted. We will find out more on September 9th.
