Which iMac Model to Buy Core i3 Vs Core i5 Vs Core i7?

With starting price of $1,199 and going all the way up to $2,199, many people are confused about which iMac model to buy. First question in making a purchase decision is the screen size, and if you want to future-proof your purchase bigger is always better. So, 27-inch iMac model it is. Now the second question Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 iMac?

To find the answer to this question, Bare Feats compared the benchmarking test results of the three iMac models and found the percentage of performance increase in relationship with price. On average, top-of-the-line Core i7 iMac was 45% faster than Core i5 model and 104% faster than Core i3 model, for a 10% and 29% price increase over respective models. The Core i5 model was 41% faster than the Core i3 for 18% price increase.

According to Bare Feats’ Morgan, if you just consider Cinebench test every rating point costs $400 for Core i7 iMac (5.5 for $2,199), $526 for Core i5 iMac (3.8 for $1,999) and $629 for Core i3 iMac (2.7 for $1,699). By performance to cost ratio Core i7 iMac is the best of the three 27-inch models.

Overall, for future proofing and resale value the Core i7 iMac is the best deal, because with the OS and applications becoming more sophisticated and demanding, the Core i7 model will be useful longer. And also the top-of-the-line model will bring more money when you decide to sale it.
