Western Digital today released world’s highest capacity 2.5-inch notebook drives offering 750GB and 1TB storage space. WD was able to achieve higher capacity by using industry leading 333GB-per-platter technology. The drive will support both SATA and SATA II standard. They will also have anti-shock protection and WhisperDrive quiet mechanisms.

While the new hard drives offer record capacity, they won’t fit in most notebooks, as they are 12.5mm tall compared to 9.5mm height of regular 2.5-inch drive. No word yet on when WD plans to introduce 9.5mm tall versions of new notebook hard drive for thin laptops. The new hard drive will target portable USB storage, small form factor desktop and desktop replacement laptop markets.

WD Scorpio Blue 1TB is available now for $249.99 and the 750GB version is also available now for $189.99. You can get more information on Western Digital’s website.
