Intel Launches Six-Core 3.2GHz Core i7 970 and Quad-Core 2.8GHz Core i5 760

Intel has added two new processors to their desktop line and decreased price of some quad-core Core i7 desktop processors by as much as 48 percent. The first processor Intel Core i7-970 comes with 3.2GHz clock speed, 3.46GHz Turbo Boost, 6 cores, 12MB cache and 130W TDP. The processor is priced $885 and is available now. The second processor Intel Core i5-760 is a quad-core processors and it comes with 2.8GHz clock speed, 3.33GHz Turbo Boost, 8MB cache and 95W TDP. The Core i5-760 is available now for $205.

The new processors triggered a drop in price of older quad-core Core i7 desktop processor. For example, 2.93GHz Core i7-870 is now available for $294 in place of $562. Intel has already announced that they will move to Sandy Bridge processor architecture later this quarter. The new processor architecture should further improve power efficiency and speed of the desktop processors.
