Samsung today announced shipment of its 32GB moviNAND chipset made using advanced 30nm process technology. The 32GB moviNAND is the first flash memory chipset to use 32 Gigabit (Gb) NAND chips produced with 30nm process technology, which doubles the density of chips made with 40nm process technology. Each 32GB chipset is made using eight 32Gb (4GB) NAND chips along with multimedia card (MMC) controller.

“The unquenchable consumer thirst for possessing large amounts of data is now embracing video in a big way, which in turn means rapidly escalating demand for higher density storage,” said Jim Elliott, Vice president, memory marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. “Samsung has taken the lead in providing OEMs with the highest density flash storage produced using the most cost-efficient process technology around – 30 nanometers.”

In addition to 32GB chipset, Samsung will also ship 16GB, 8GB and 4GB densities. The new high-density memory is aimed for use in high-end phones and other consumer electronics.
