Sony Plans to Launch PlayStation 4 Ahead of Next Generation Xbox

Even though specifications-wise Sony’s PlayStation 3 is better than Xbox 360 with Blu-ray drive and Cell processor, but it hasn’t been able to capture the same market share as the Xbox. Some analysts blame this on late arrival of PS 3 on the market with Xbox 360 already selling like hot cakes for over a year. However, Sony doesn’t want to make the same mistake twice and plans to launch PlayStation 4 before Microsoft launches next generation Xbox.

VG247 reported today that Sony is “confident” that it will have the console ready ahead of the next generation Xbox launch by Christmas 2013. Patrick Garratt posted on VG247:

“Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time,” they said. “You should be watching the timing of next year’s E3 keynotes, and who’s going to go first.”

A second source said this morning that all next-generation systems will be in place “by 2014″.

Sony has apparently already put its favoured partners in the frame as to PlayStation 4.

“Top line publishers already know about it,” our source said. “Developers working with publishers – like Ubisoft, for example – already know what’s going on. They’re already working on it.”

While “most developers” will be fully briefed “by the end of this year,” some have been invited to events in May and June in the US.

Another source has told us more information is going to be issued about PS4 to developers under NDA in May.

It will be interesting to see which company brings out the next generation gaming console first because first place in market release definitely has advantages when it comes to console war. Also, interest in Nintendo’s next generation console is almost zero so the console war will now be between Microsoft and Sony.
