Tonymacx86 Blog is reporting that Apple has included native graphics acceleration for some new AMD Radeon HD 5xxx and 6xxx series desktop graphics cards. Following graphics cards now have native support in Mac OS X:

  • ATI Radeon HD 5630 Device ID 0x68D8
  • ATI Radeon HD 5630 Device ID 0x68D9
  • ATI Radeon HD 5670 Device ID 0x68D8
  • ATI Radeon HD 5730 Device ID 0x68D8
  • ATI Radeon HD 5770 Device ID 0x68B8
  • ATI Radeon HD 5850 Device ID 0x6899
  • ATI Radeon HD 5870 Device ID 0x6898
  • AMD Radeon HD 6850 Device ID 0x6739
  • AMD Radeon HD 6870 Device ID 0x6738

Many of the above mentioned AMD graphics cards are not used in any Apple desktop, indicating that they might be used in upcoming desktop updates. It is rumored that Apple will be updating the iMac lineup with new Core i5 and i7 (Sandy Bridge) processors from Intel in April and these cards might be used in those desktops. It looks like April is going to be another interesting month for Apple customers.
