Now that Verizon iPhone is out of the way, rumors about next generation iOS products have started flooding. Over the weekend many blogs posted rumors about upcoming iPad 2, iPhone 5 and Apple TV updates. Engadget started the rumor cycle with news about all three products. And then various blogs followed with information about upcoming iOS devices. So here is the sum of what various blogs reported about upcoming iOS devices over the weekend.

iPad 2: As we all know iPad will be the first iOS device that Apple will update. According to Engadget, iPad case design will change with tapered sides giving it more thinner and sleeker look, and it will also get new screen technology with super high resolution like the Retina Display on iPhone 4. After this news was published, MacRumors posted iBooks artwork for iPad showing bookmark icon and wood tile image with double resolution. MacRumors suggested that Apple would follow iPhone 4 example where they doubled screen resolution from 480 x 320 to 960 x 640, this would increase the iPad screen resolution from 1024 x 768 on current model to 2048 x 1536 on iPad 2. Bring the DPI (dots per inch) to 260.

If Apple doubles the screen resolution of the iPad, its screen will offer resolution higher than 1080p displays (1920 x 1080), which is unheard of even in laptops measuring 17-inch. Also, Apple will need to give big boost to graphics performance to support 2048 x 1536  screen resolution, and AppleInsider says Apple is going to do just that in their next generation A5 SoC (System on Chip). The next A5 chip will replace the SGX535 graphics core on A4 with dual SGX543 graphics cores and the ARM Cortex A8 processor core will be replaced by dual core ARM Cortex A9. This will not just double but quadruple the performance. Apple has already bundled POWERVR SGX543 drivers in iOS 4.3 beta release.

iPhone 5: On the next generation iPhone front Engadget says that iPhone 5 will see complete redesign and the prototypes are being tested discreetly by senior staff on Apple campus. Like the iPad 2 the new Phone will use new A5 SoC and Qualcomm chipset supporting both CDMA and GSM.

Apple TV: Finally the Apple TV will also get the A5 CPU enabling it to support full HD 1080p video. Engadget wrote, “The CPU is said to be blazingly fast, cranking out 1080p video ‘like running water’.”

Best Buy has already added three new iPad models to their inventory list indicating that iPad update is coming soon. While the iPhone and Apple TV updates should come by summer this year. Our sources say that iPad 2 will be announced within 3-4 weeks and should ship soon after.
