Samsung’s semiconductor branch announced a new mobile platform chip S3C6410 that combines a 667MHz ARM Processor and hardware Multi Format codec decoder/encoder that would offload the work normally send to the main CPU. The decoder/encoder will support video playback as well as simultaneous video recording in standard definition. This feature will allow two way video calls at SD quality and improve battery life. The formats supported are H.264, MPEG-4 and VC-1. The chip will also improve 3D performance and have dual RAM ports to increase the memory bandwidth. This chip is aimed towards smartphone and other high-end hand held devices and will be available in second half of 2008.
