It has been rumored for quite sometime that Apple will update their MacBook Pro lineup. And recent benchmarking result posted on Geekbench indicates this update will come sooner than later. The test result show that the benchmarking tool was ran on MacBook Pro featuring 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 620M processor with 4GB DDR3 RAM. The present MacBook lineup uses Core 2 Duo processor and it is believed the update will bring recently announced Core i5 and Core i7 processors to the MacBook Pros.

The new MacBook Pro, which is referred by model number 6,1 in the result, scored 5260 compared to around 4000 scored by present generation MacBook Pros. Showing that the new Intel processors will offer more than 25 percent performance increase over existing generation. The result also show memory bandwidth has almost doubled when compared to previous generation models, which is a direct result of integrated memory controller on the new Intel Core i7 and i5 chips. Overall, the new MacBook Pro showed at least 15 percent performance improvement in every test.

Apple will likely use 2.4GHz Core i5-520M, 2.53GHz Core i5-540M and 2.66GHz Core i7-620M in the upcoming MacBook Pros. It is also rumored that Apple might use quad-core Intel Core i7-720QM and Core i7 820QM in top of the line MacBook Pro. We should find out more about upcoming MacBook Pro lineup by March.
