Earlier this week, Sony launched a teaser website stating “On the 9th January you will change the way you look at laptops forever.” Now, Sony Japan has launched a teaser video on their website that shows a woman taking a long and narrow device out of her handbag. In the video Sony compares the size of the device with a 4” x 9” envelope. Clicking on the ad takes you to a website dedicated to the new device with very little information about the actual device.
The Proportions of the device shown in the video look very similar to a device FCC approved from Sony. The 9.5” x 4.5” device comes with a Qualcomm Gobi WLAN chipset and it supports WiFi, Bluetooth, EVDO and HSPA wireless standards. Sony has give two model numbers PCG-1P1L and PCG 1P2L for the new device pictured below. If you consider the proportions of the device, it will have widescreen on top and a keyboard below, the trackpad will be replaced by a smaller optical mouse like the one found on Samsung Omnia. There is no information about what processor the new VAIO Mobile will use but it’s highly likely that Intel Atom will be inside.
We will definitely find out more about this device on 8th January at CES keynote speech by Sony’s CEO Sir Howard Stringer.
