One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) has outlined its product roadmap for coming three years with plans to introduce tablet style computing devices called XO 3 in 2012. According to the roadmap, OLPC will update XO 1.0 laptop in January 2010 and the updated laptop XO 1.5 will be price $200. The XO 1.5 will have same external design but it will use VIA processor in place of AMD CPU and will offer twice the speed with four times DRAM and Flash memory.

In early 2011, OLPC will ship XO 1.75 that will have same design, but with rubber bumpers outside and bigger 8.9-inch touchscreen. The updated laptop will use ARM processor from Marvell in place of VIA processor offering twice the speed at a quarter of power requirements. OLPC plans to ship XO 1.75 for around $150.

The most interesting part of the roadmap is the planned introduction of tablet XO 3.0 in 2012 for less than $100 (we know OLPC has been promising $100 laptop for five years now). Like the XO 1.75, the tablet will be based on ARM processor and it will be quarter-inch thick. The LCD screen will come from Pixel Qi that would be readable in bright daylight and feature plastic backplane to prevent easy shattering. XO 3.0 will have a ring on one corner for carrying that will collapse on to the back when not in use and would be held there by magnets.
