Apple – Its Time to Spruce up The Camera on Next Gen iPhone

In past few months, we have seen that iPhone has become the most popular camera phone on Flickr and according to the latest statistics from the website, it is among the top five most popular cameras in the Flickr community.  The two main reasons why iPhone is so popular on Flickr are its easy of use and always connected 3G network, even though it has a low-end (2 megapixel – really?) camera.
We believe that there is not even a single camera phone that comes close to image quality produced by the cheapest of the standalone cameras. For example, images from 5-megapixel Nokia N-96 camera phone are not even comparable to images taken with a three year old 5-megapixel Canon A610 camera. The cellphone camera is more so for the convenience sake rather than its ability to take good pictures.
Flickr’s most popular camera results show that iPhone is becoming one of the most used cameras in the community. And for iPhone to continue its march to the top, Apple will need to improve its camera, which is one of the weakest features of the iPhone. Just imagine what iPhone could achieve if it had a better camera.
We know that image sensors for cellphones are small and not as good as ones used in dedicated cameras, but the technology is improving everyday and we have learned to live with slightly inferior image quality. So Apple, please make the iPhone camera comparable to top of the line camera phones.
