Safari Faster Than Chrome on Mac

Google released the first beta version of Chrome web browser for Mac on Tuesday. In our initial impression we wrote that it was the fastest browser to launch when compared with Safari and Firefox, and its page load time was faster than Firefox and comparable to Safari. However, test results posted by Computer World show that Chrome is twice as fast as Firefox, but can’t keep up with Safari.

Computer World benchmarked the four browsers (Safari, Firefox, Opera and Chrome) using SunSpider JavaScript benchmark suite on Mac OS X 10.6. They tested each browser three times and then averaged the scores.

The test results showed that Chrome renders JavaScript 10 times faster than Opera 10.10, almost twice as fast as Firefox 3.6, but it was 12 percent slower than Safari 4.0.4. As we wrote in our initial impression of Chrome beta for Mac, it’s a very good browser for general web surfing, but hardcore users should stay with Safari or Firefox for now.
