Asus has been the torchbearer in the netbook market and both Asus and Acer have claimed that they want to grab more than 30 percent of the netbook market as well as the number one position in 2009. But the numbers for Acer’s third quarter shows that Acer has overtaken Asus by a wide margin. Acer sold 2.15 million Aspire One netbooks for 38.3 percent market share whereas Asus sold 1.7 million Eee PC netbooks for 30.3 percent market share.
Acer climbed to number one position because of their overall build quality and styling of the Aspire One netbook. And the price difference between the Acer and Asus 9-inch model with 1.6Ghz Atom processor is also negligible. For just $20 more you can get a better looking and better built Acer Aspire One on Amazon.
Acer Aspire One with Windows XP is available for $349.99 and Acer Aspire One with Linux and 8 GB Solid State Drive is available for $299 on Amazon.
