Google today released the highly anticipated beta version of its Chrome browser for Mac. According to Google, the main features of the Chrome browser for Mac are speed, stability, security, new tab page, Omnibox, themes and incognito mode. The Chrome for Mac has been in development for almost a year now and was released to developers six months back. The beta version released today is the first public release of the Chrome browser for Mac.

The initial impression of the Chrome browser on Mac is that it’s incredibly fast. For example, it was the fastest browser to launch when compared with Safari and Firefox. Page load time was faster than Firefox and comparable to Safari (in fact sometimes faster). Features like “Omnibox” that combines address bar and search bar, and ordering behavior of tab windows made browsing easier and faster.

Overall, the Chrome for Mac is fast and stable, but it lacks many features found on Safari and Firefox like bookmark Sync, bookmark manager, plug-ins and RSS feed manager. Google has already said that it will add bookmark sync and manager very soon to the browser. Chrome is a very good browser for general web surfing, but hardcore users should stay with Safari and Firefox for now.
