Apple today released iPhone 2.2 Firmware Update, which is available through iTunes for iPhone and iPod touch owners. To get the 246.4MB update just connect your iPhone or iPod touch to the computer and click check for update. According to the release note, the update contains many bug fixes and improvements, including the following:

  • Google Street View
  • Public transit and walking directions
  • Display address of dropped pins
  • Share location via email
  • Resolved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email
  • Improved formatting of wide HTML email
  • Improved stability and performance of Safari
  • Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes Applications over WiFi and cellular network.
  • Decrease in call set-up failures and call drops
  • Improved sound quality of visual voicemail messages
  • Pressing the Home button from any Home Screen takes you to the First Home screen
  • Preference to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard Settings

Overall, after using the updated iPhone for almost most 3 hours we can say that improvements to Google Maps are welcomed and useful, Safari has not crashed for past 3 hours, we didn’t have a single call drop or failure and we love the ability to download podcasts directly to the phone, but we hate the 10MB limit over 3G.
