Samsung’s senior VP Don Joo Lee today confirmed that the company would stop using Symbian mobile OS in 2010. It was rumored earlier this week that Samsung is planning to drop Symbian and decrease use of Windows Mobile OS in its handset lineup. Samsung will replace Symbian with their newly announced bada platform. Samsung will continue using the Windows and Android in its handset.

According to analyst Greg Noh of HMC Investment Securities, Samsung’s use of Windows Mobile OS in smartphones will fall from 80 percent in 2009 to less than 50 percent in 2010. By 2012, only 20 percent of Samsung smartphones will use Windows Mobile. Samsung will increase the use of Android to about 30 percent next year and the rest 20 percent smartphones will be based on bada in 2010. Samsung plans to increase bada’s share to 50 percent in 2012, while keeping Android constant at 30 percent.

This is a major blow for both Symbian and Microsoft, as their other partners like Sony Ericsson and LG are also moving away from both the platforms and adopting Android.
