Apple to Use Dual LED Bars in Next Generation iPad

Apple uses single LED bar to light up LCD screen on current iPad model that has 1024 x 768 resolution. However, next generation iPad will have higher resolution 2048 x 1536 screen and the current LED setup won’t be able to provide enough brightness. This has forced Apple and its partners to look for alternative solutions. According to DigiTimes, Apple’s LED back light partners have offered two alternative backlight solutions:

One of the new LED light bar designs has proposed to keep the light bar in a single-bar form factor but with two LED chips inside; the other has suggested using dual-LED light bars, the sources indicated.

Apple is likely to adopt the design using dual light bars, the sources asserted, adding that BLU makers have solved issues related heat dissipation and battery consumption for the dual light bar design.

Using dual LED light bar design will be better that using single-bar with two LED chips inside for Apple, as the dual LED bars can offer more uniform brightness throughout the screen when compared to single LED bar.

To bring ultra high-resolution screen like 2048 x 1536 to a 9.7-inch iPad Apple will have to adopt and design many new technologies. The two other main areas where Apple will have to push the technology envelope will be battery and processor technologies. As to power higher resolution screen Apple will need more battery life and more powerful processor.
