Dell today introduced world’s thinnest laptop Adamo XPS that is just 9.99mm (0.4-inch) thick. To open the new laptop you have to swipe your finger over a heat sensitive touch strip, which unlocks the laptop and reveals the keyboard. To achieve the 0.4-inch thickness Dell tucked most of the computer components behind the display and designed a unique hinge mechanism. The Adamo XPS is thinner than its competitor MacBook Air, but it is wider by 0.59-inch (at 13.39-inch) and longer by 1.77-inch (at 10.71).

The Windows 7 based Dell Adamo XPS features 13.4-inch 720p LED backlit screen, 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo ULV processor, GS45 integrated graphics, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 128GB SSD, WiFi a/g/n and Bluetooth. Ports present on the laptop include two USB and one DisplayPort. The standard 20WHr lithium ion battery on Adamo XPS can last up to 2 hours and 36 minutes. Customers can select optional 40WHr battery for up to 5 hours of battery life, but the bigger battery will add bulk to the sleek laptop.

“Our engineers and designers are breaking new ground and throwing away the old rules with the introduction of Adamo XPS,” said Alex Gruzen, senior vice president of Dell Consumer products. “We think the Adamo XPS will inspire an emotional connection with anyone who sees it.

Dell expects to begin taking orders and shipping the Adamo XPS in time for the holidays. The Adamo XPS is priced starting at $1799. We have added a video below from SlashGear showing the new Dell Adamo XPS.
