Camera Module Maker OmniVision Hints at Increased iPhone 3GS DemandSubmitted by lalit on October 27, 2009 - 1:29pm.
OmniVision Technologies has warned its customers to expect upcoming limited supply of CMOS image sensors due to strong iPhone 3GS demand. According to Digitimes, the increase in demand is due to holiday season and the tight supply is not expected to ease until late November. Industrial sources say that Apple has increased its fourth quarter order for iPhone 3GS to Foxconn Electronics and Primax Electronics by 17-20 percent. The iPhone demand is estimated to rise in Q4 2009 because Apple will launch the iPhone in China and add new carriers in countries like UK and Canada. Earlier this year, iPhone 3GS launch caused flash memory shortage and now the iPhone is causing image sensor shortage, indicating that Apple is seeing a very health iPhone growth.
