Dell today introduced the new Inspiron Mini 12 netbook with 12-inch LCD screen. Initially, Mini 12 will only ship in Japan through Bic Camera, Kojima and Sofmap stores and other retail outlets. It will be launched globally in late November with starting price of around $599. The new netbook will only be 0.92-inch thick and weigh 2.72 pounds. The features on the Mini 12 are 1.3GHz Atom Z520 or 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor, 12-inch screen with 1280 x 800 resolution, 1GB RAM, 60GB or 80GB hard drive, Webcam, Bluetooth and WiFi b/g. The feature list of the netbook is impressive, except that it comes with Windows Vista Home Basic. Running Vista on an Atom processor and 1GB RAM will be a nightmare, unless Dell has come up with a way to make Vista less of a resource hog.
