AUO Optronics today showcased their latest LCD display technologies.  The company has developed multitouch display technology that is built into the cells of the LCD panel itself. There is no need of separate touch layer with the new technology as the screen uses image sensing to recognize input. This makes the screen responsive to both fingers and light pens. AUO has developed multitouch panels in three sizes 15-inch, 12-inch and 4.3-inch.
AUO also showed a borderless 2.2-inch display designed for use in cellphones, and portable media players.  The company revealed a larger 2.8-inch panel with 640 x 480 resolution that can be used as a security tool and scanner. The other panel technologies that the company revealed included a 24-inch LCD that is capable of both 2D and 3D imagery at the same time, 8.9-inch curved LCD and a 6.5-inch 800 x 480 display with 2,000:1 contrast ratio.  The company didn’t announce when they will start shipping the displays based on the technologies shown.
