Motorola and Verizon are preparing to launch the new Android phone Droid on 28th October. However, BGR got there hands on the new handset and have published complete specifications and a Preview of Motorola Droid.

Hardware specifications of Droid are 3.7-inch touchscreen (854 x 480), 5-megapixel camera, 550MHz Texas Instruments OMAP3430 processor, 256MB RAM, CDMA Rev A., WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The camera on the phone will come with autofocus, image stabilization and dual LED flash. There is very little on-board memory, but Motorola will include 16GB microSD card and the phone would be able to support up to 32GB microSD card. The Droid measures 2.4” X 4.5” x 0.5” and weighs 6 ounces. Battery life on the phone is 6.5 hours of talk time and 270 hours of standby time.

Along with the specifications, BGR also posted a detailed preview of the new handset. The website says that when Droid is released in the coming weeks, it will be the most advanced Android device on the market as far as specifications go. BGR loved the build quality of the phone and the large 3.7-inch touchscreen. As for the Android 2.0 OS, the UI is little bit more streamlined, it has out of the box Exchange support, new unified email inbox, voice commands, new Google Maps, better multimedia support and new browser with HTML5 support.

BGR concludes by saying, “Whether it’s Verizon’s ad campaign or Motorola’s that pits the Droid against the iPhone it doesn’t matter. The Droid isn’t an iPhone competitor because nothing at this point in time is an iPhone competitor besides the new iPhone. And things don’t have to be right now. Everyone can eat. So will the Motorola Droid be successful? Absolutely, we think. It will eat in to BlackBerry sales, Windows Mobile sales, and positively murder any lingering Palm Pre sales. It’s that good.”
