Latest data from research firm Strategy Analytics show that Apple has captured second place in global smartphone market overtaking RIM. Nokia with 26.6 million devices is still the number one company when it comes to smartphones with 34.4% market share, which dropped from 37.8 percent in previous year.

Apple is now in second place with 14.5 million devices and their market share has gone up from last year’s 17% to 18.3% now. RIM on the other hand has lost market share from 19.6% to 16.1% now with shipment of 12.3 million devices.

The data proves Steve Jobs statement “We’ve now passed RIM and I don’t see then catching up with us in the foreseeable future.”
