The blogosphere went ballistic when few months back Apple revealed that it has a kill switch in the iPhone OS that can be used to stop bad applications from running on the iPhone. Many bloggers were angry that Apple would put a kill switch in OS that could destroy users apps that they had bought and paid for. Now Google has also put a similar kill switch in their new Android OS, which Google calls completely open software.
The information about the Google’s kill switch was revealed by terms in user contract of Google’s Android Market that stated, “Google may discover a product that violates the developer distribution agreements … in such an instance, Google retains the right to remotely remove those applications from your device at its sole discretion.”
Now, the main question is, whether the kill switch is a good or bad? Well the short answer is for 98 percent of users its good thing and for the rest two percent it depends what their intentions are. For common users this means that they don’t have to worry, the Android Market place will not sell malware or applications that can corrupt your phone. And, if by mistake one such application slips through to the consumers, Google can kill it remotely without users having to worry about it. This basically validates Apple decision to put kill switch on the iPhone.
