The Motley Fool is reporting that T-Mobile has sold 1.5 million G1 handset through preorders. T-Mobile has allowed users to preorder the new Google Android based G1 handset and will start shipping the handset on 22nd October.  The website based their assumption that 1.5million G1 are already preordered on the news that T-Mobile has tripled their preorders.
Last week, T-Mobile said, “Given the great anticipation and the heavy pre-sale demand for the T-Mobile G1 with Google, we nearly tripled the number of phones initially available for delivery on our October 22 launch date, and have sold through them all.”  T-mobile didn’t give any numbers or said what their initial preorder was. But, many analysts had said that T-Mobile was planning to sell around 500,000 G1 handsets in fourth quarter of 2008. The Motley Fool has taken that number and tripled it.
If T-Mobile ships 1.5-million handsets on October 22nd, it will make the G1 fastest selling handset in the history. The iPhone 3G sold one million handsets in three days, though there were no preorders allowed. T-Mobile has said that after shipment of the first round of preorders on October 22nd, the company will ship the second round of preorders in second week of November. So if we assume that T-Mobile has 1.5 million pre-orders and that it will complete the shipment of the preorders in second week of November. Then T-Mobile G1 will become the second fastest selling handset that’s also not a bad place for a handset sold exclusively by fourth largest carrier in US.
