Toshiba has unveiled CELL REGZA 55X1 the first LCD TV that is based on Cell Broadband Engine that is used in PS3. With the new Cell processor the TV offers high speed processing and recording, enhanced navigation and seamless network interactivity. Toshiba says that the Cell platform achieves an arithmetic processing capability approximately 143 times 3 that of current top-of-the line REGZA TV.

The TV comes with set-top box that offers 3TB of storage space and CELL REGZA’s “time-shift machine”, which can simultaneously record up to 26 hours of programming for up to eight channels of digital terrestrial broadcast. The time-shift machine (DVR) allows users to catch up on missed programs simply by pressing the “time-shift machine” button on the remote control.

The 55-inch HDTV offers 5,000,000:1 contract ratio, 1250cd/m2 luminance, 240Hz refresh and 512 distant LED backlight areas, each individually controlled. The TV can pump out eight channels on-screen simultaneously, allow web browsing via Opera and YouTube playback. The Toshiba CELL REGZA 55X1 will ship in Japan in December for 1,000,000 Yen (about $11,100). Toshiba will introduce smaller and cheaper versions of the TV next year.
