Amazon Introduces Kindle Fire Tablet Priced $199Submitted by lalit on September 28, 2011 - 11:42am.
Today’s major Amazon announcement was their new tablet called Kindle Fire that Amazon says is the Kindle for movies, TV shows, music, books magazine, apps, game and web browsing. The Kindle fire is designed to bring Amazon’s selection of digital content at your fingertips. As always Amazon doesn’t give much hardware details except saying that the Kindle Fire has a vibrant 7-inch color touchscreen and a powerful dual-core processor. However, we have found out that it has OMAP 4 processor, 1024 x 600 resolution screen, 512MB RAM, 8GB onboard storage (about 6GB available for user) and WiFi. There are no cameras, 3G or Bluetooth support. The Kindle Fire is 11.4mm thick and weighs 414g (0.91 pounds) with a battery life of up to 8 hours. While Amazon didn’t give much detail about the hardware they talked in-depth about software features. And one of the most interesting new features on the tablet will be the Amazon Silk browser that has a “split browser” architecture powered by the mobile device hardware as well as Amazon Web Service Cloud. According to Amazon, with each page request, Silk dynamically determines a division of labor between the mobile hardware and Amazon EC2 (i.e. which browser sub-components run where) that takes into consideration factors like network conditions, page complexity, and cached content, resulting in a faster browsing experience. The video below gives an in-depth look at the new Amazon Silk web browser architecture. Other software features on Kindle Fire include a custom Android UI aimed at easier media navigation and better integration of Amazon services; Free Amazon Cloud storage for all the media you bought from Amazon; Whispersync for movies and TV shows and wireless syncing from Amazon Cloud storage.
