Apple today announced that more than two billion apps have been downloaded from its revolutionary App Store. Apple also said that there are more than 85,000 apps available to more than 50 million iPhone and iPod touch customers and over 125,000 developers in Apple’s iPhone Developer Program.

“The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate with users downloading a staggering two billion apps in just over a year, including more than half a billion apps this quarter alone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “The App Store have reinvented what you can do with a mobile handheld device, and our users are clearly loving it.”

We predicted in April that App Store would reach 2 billion mark in October 2009 and it reached 2 billion three days before. As you can see from the graph above (graph via MacRumors), App Store growth has accelerated in past three months since the iPhone OS 3.0 and iPhone 3GS were released, we now believe that App Store will reach the 5 billion downloads by end of 2010.
