Few days back images showing the packaging for iPhone 4S case from Otterbox were leaked. And many blogs started saying that this confirms upcoming iPhone 4S launch. However, Kelly Richardson of Otterbox told TUAW that they have no idea what’s coming from Apple, even though they are running a “iPhone 4S or iPhone 5? Yes.” banner on their website.

"We're not even quite sure ourselves," Kelly told TUAW. "Like many, we are watching the rumor sites and using information to plan ahead as much as we can. We do not have any confidentiality agreements with Apple.”

Talking about the leaked image she said, "What was circulating yesterday was not a case image for the iPhone 4S but a packaging design." Indicating that Otterbox is just preparing for all possible outcomes of Apple announcement in October.

As for the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 banner on their website, Otterbox clarifies on their signup page:

Of course we’re making a case for it! Like everyone else, we’re waiting to find out exactly what ‘it’ is. We’re eagerly anticipating the moment Tim Cook steps up to the podium to enlighten and delight us all. Whatever it turns out to be, we’ll have iPhone 4s cases or iPhone 5 cases for you!

Basically, the fact is no one knows what Apple is planning to announce next month, whether it will be iPhone 4S with just updated hardware or a completely redesigned iPhone 5 or both. However, we think the kind of tight lid Apple has kept on this matter indicates that Apple has something big planned for October.
