Toshiba Also Introduces Android Based Tablet Folio 100Submitted by lalit on September 3, 2010 - 10:12pm.
Following Samsung, Toshiba also announced their Android 2.2 based tablet Folio 100 yesterday in London. Folio 100 is bigger than Samsung Galaxy Tab featuring a 10-inch screen in place of 7-inch screen on Galaxy. The tablet uses NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 chipset and support 1080p video playback on HDTV. The main features of the new tablet are 16GB storage, 1.3-megapixel webcam, WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1, up to 7 hours battery life and SD card slot. The tablet features a 30-pin connector that can be used with optional cradle. It also comes with USB port and mini HDMI output. Like Samsung, Toshiba is also highlighting Flash 10.1 support, which can be a blessing or a nightmare depending on usage. It weighs 1.67 pounds and is 0.55-inch thick. Toshiba Folio 100 will ship in UK by mid October priced £329 ($510) for WiFi model. Toshiba says that a 3G model will be launched later. There is no word on when the tablet will ship in other parts of the world. SlashGear posted a hands-on video of the Folio 100. In their initial interaction with the device they found, “The touchscreen proved patchy in its responsiveness, sometimes taking a couple of taps before registering. It’s pretty obvious that Android still isn’t 100-percent ready for tablet deployment, and that shows. Toshiba have produced their own workarounds – they described them as “wrapping” the OS – but some tasks are simply trickier or less intuitive than, say, an iPad. Media playback, though, is strong, with a high-resolution video looking smooth and slick on the bright LCD display.” Check out the video below.
