Sony today announced the new Reader WiFi (model PRS-T1) – the world’s lightest 6-inch eReader featuring enhanced touchscreen. It is also world’s first eReader that will allow you to borrow eBooks wirelessly from public libraries via an on-screen ‘Public Library’ icon.

The Reader WiFi features E Ink Pearl display that allows glare-free, high contrast images even in direct sunlight. The Reader has 6-inch touchscreen 600 x 800 resoultion, 2GB of onboard storage (only 1.3GB usable), WiFi and microSD card slot. It weighs 168 grams (5.93 ounces) and is just 8.9mm (0.35-inch) thick, while offering battery life of over one month (3 weeks with WiFi on).

Sony will ship the Reader WiFi in October priced $149. It will be available in red, white and black colors.
