Samsung has announced that the Galaxy S II Android smartphone will be available in US with AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile starting this fall. “The unveiling of the Galaxy S II is a landmark achievement for Samsung, our carrier customers and consumers,” said Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Mobile. “Five million Galaxy S II smartphones have been sold around the world and that number increases every day. We believe the cutting-edge design, features and user experience of this innovative device will share the same level of success in the U.S.” All three carriers will be getting slightly different variant of the new handset. Sprint’s version will be called Epic 4G Touch and features 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, 4G (WiMAX) and 1800 mAh hour battery. The AT&T version features 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen and will be called Galaxy S II. And the T-Mobile version will also be called Galaxy S II, but feature the 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen. Both T-Mobile and AT&T versions have 1650 mAh battery and Samsung claims these two are the “thinnest 4G smartphones”. All three Galaxy S II smartphones have 1.2GHz dual core processor, 8-megapixel back camera, 2-megapixel front camera, 1080p video recording, WiFi, Bluetooth and microSD card slot. Sprint Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch will start shipping on September 16th priced $199 with two-year contract. No word yet on launch date and pricing for T-Mobile and AT&T.
