Samsung Changes Smartphone Naming Strategy, Expands Galaxy Smartphone LineupSubmitted by lalit on August 24, 2011 - 10:40pm.
Samsung today announced a new naming strategy for its Galaxy range of smartphones. The creation of the new naming system is marked by the release of four new Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy W, Galaxy M Pro, Galaxy Y and Galaxy Y Pro. The naming structure will organize and group all devices into five classes, identified by a single alphabetical letter. Devices will then be further designated by an additional indicator, which will identify specific functionality. The new naming structure will be as follows:
After reading the new naming strategy I couldn’t stop laughing, R for Royal, W for Wonder and M for Magical. I hope that Samsung's smartphone designing strategy is better than their naming strategy. The first of the four new smartphones that Samsung announced is Galaxy W featuring “wonder” along with 1.4GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera, HSDPA 14.4 Mbps and 3.7-inch touchscreen. The phone will also come with Samsung’s Game, Social and Music Hubs. On the Pro Magical side of things, Galaxy M Pro comes with 1GHz processor, full QWERTY keyboard and 2.6-inch screen. The phone comes loaded with enterprise software including Sybase Afaria, Cisco Mobile and Cisco WebEx. For Young people, Samsung is launching Galaxy Y featuring 2.6-inch touchscreen, 832MHz processor, 3-megapixel camera and will ship in variety of colors. The phone will be equipped with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI and Social Hub. And finally for Young Pros, Samsung is introducing Galaxy Y Pro that has QWERTY keypad, 2.6-inch screen, 832MHz processor and 3-megapixel camera. The phone will come pre-loaded with ThinkFree mobile office that allows editing of Word, PPT, Excel and PDF documents. All the phones are powered by Android 2.3 and should ship by end of September. No word on price yet.
