Lenovo has started taking pre-orders for the new 14-inch CULV ultraportable IdeaPad U450p. The new ultraportable has starting price of $799 and is available in two configurations. The base model ($799) comes with antiglare 1366 x 768 resolution screen, 1.3GHz Intel Pentium SU2700 processor, 3GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB hard drive, DVD writer, WiFi and 6 cell battery.

The top of the line model is priced $899 and feature 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 320GB hard drive and Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100. The IdeaPad U450p weighs 4.6 lbs and is about 1-inch thick with up to 6 hours of battery life. You can get more information about the ultraportable on Lenovo’s website.

We seriously can’t understand why someone will pay $899 for laptop with single core processor. Since 2006 we have been using dual core processers and going back to single core processors is like a nightmare. If you want an ultraportable, for about $300 more you can get 13-inch Macbook Pro that is 0.95-inch thin, weighs just 4.5 lbs, features faster 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo processor and has 7 hours battery life. Similarly, you can get a Dell Studio XPS 13 for $1,050 that will provide good performance while being ultraportable.
