Intel Plans to Ship Cheaper Mobile Quad-Core Processor

Intel is planning to announce a second mobile quad-core processor at its Developer Forum next week. The company has already announced that it will ship quad-core 2.53GHz Core 2 Extreme processor in Q3 2008 for high-end systems and HP has also shown notebooks based on that processor at SIGGRAPH Expo. The second quad-core processor will be aimed at more mainstream system under Core 2 Quad name. The model number for the processor will be Q9100 and it will have clock speed of 2.26Ghz, 12MB level 2 Cache and 1,066MHz front side bus. There is no word on whether the processor will have the same 45 watts TDP of Core 2 Extreme or it will be 35 watts TDP. The chip will be price higher than top-end Core 2 Duo chip but less than Core 2 Extreme chip.
