Piper Jaffray’s analyst Gene Munster has advised clients that Apple has used a September event to launch new iPods for last three years and Apple shares have risen about 4 percent on average from the week before those events to the week after. Munster believes that it’s only a matter of time before Apple announces its plans to hold the special event.
According to the analyst Apple will refresh its iPod family through a number of pricing and capacity changes. iPod shuffles and nanos will see increase in capacity but no price change. The iPod touch will see a price drop to $199 and design change. Along with the iPods, Apple will also introduce its redesigned MacBook and MacBook Pro. The MacBook might see its price dropped to $999 from $1,099.
The analyst expects Apple to eventually change the trackpad to backlit color screens for a more dynamic user interface on the Mac.
We think Apple will definitely update its laptop and iPod lineup in September. But we are not sure whether iPod touch will see any design changes. It is more likely that iPod nano might see some design changes as rumored before.
