More Apple Rumors: 11.6-inch MacBook Air and iPod touch with FaceTimeSubmitted by lalit on August 6, 2010 - 5:33pm.
MacMagazine reported today that they have received information from a reliable source within Apple about upcoming iPod press event. According to their source, the event is scheduled around 14th or 16th of August, and Apple plans to introduce next generation iPod touch, as well as information on iOS 4 release for iPad. The website adds that Apple will also introduce new iPod nano and shuffle at the event. In other iPod touch related news, MacRumors has posted an image showing the FaceTime app allowing users to use either phone number or email to make video calls. The new feature is available in iOS 4.1 beta released for the developers few days back. By using email address in place of phone number Apple will allow devices like iPod touch and iPad to make FaceTime video calls. This almost confirms that next generation iPod touch will have a front facing camera. On MacBook Air side, BMO analyst Keith Bachman said that Apple is planning a huge ramp in production for a new MacBook Air, which could suggest a more mainstream design with price tag significantly lower than current $1,499. He adds that to lower the price tag Apple will use a 11.6-inch screen in place of 13.3-inch on current MacBook Air models and Intel’s new ultra-low voltage Core i3 and i5 processors. The new MacBook Air should start shipping in September.
