Samsung Starts an Excellent Marketing Campaign by Giving Free Galaxy S to Unhappy iPhone 4 Customers in UKSubmitted by lalit on July 23, 2010 - 3:59pm.
Samsung is giving away free Galaxy S smartphones to few unhappy iPhone 4 customers in a Twitter marketing campaign. Samsung is giving the free phones to iPhone 4 owners who tweeted about their reception problem. In their official statement Samsung said “Yes, we’re giving away Galaxy S. We’re proud of it so wanted to get it into some people’s hands to spread the word. Only a few left!” However, as Engadget points out Samsung is giving free phones to influential people only. The website posted “it looks like the Korean giant's only picking certain influencers for some cheap publicity -- turns out our Tiffany here works in Digital Marketing for Condé Nast, which is coincidentally Wired's parent company.” So, Samsung is trying to steer up Twitter and social media for some cheap publicity. As it’s cheaper to give few people a handset and generate tweets against their competitor than publishing or broadcasting an ad.
