Latest Apple Rumors – Two iPhone Models, MacBook Air Update and LTE iPad

Last week BGR kick started the completely redesigned iPhone 5 rumors by posting “We have been told by a reliable source to except a radical new case design for the upcoming iPhone, though we have not been given any additional details surrounding the design of the new iPhone case.” However, other sources still maintain that the next generation iPhone will be iPhone 4 with updated hardware. And, according to a research note issued by Deutsche Bank analyst Chris Whitmore both these rumors might be true.

He believes that Apple will release two new iPhone models to address both the premium and the mid range smart-phone market. He wrote “the time is right for Apple to aggressively penetrate the mid range smartphone market (i.e. $300-500 category) to dramatically expand its (total addressable market) and market share.”

This is my next was first to report about this completely redesigned iPhone 5 in April and with each passing day that news looks more and more credible. So when is this new iPhone 5 coming? Some are saying August and others are saying September. The general concise is production will start in August and shipment in September. But our sources say that Apple is ready to start iPhone 5 production soon maybe in first week of July, as they want to have enough inventory for a launch in August.

According to Cult of Mac, Apple has ordered 15 million iPhone 5 handsets from two manufacturers Foxconn and Pegatron. We believe this number is on the mark because we have heard that Apple is gearing up for the biggest iPhone launch with at least 20 major iPhone markets getting the next gen iPhone within first month. Adding weight to this news is the report that a China Mobile’s employee posted on Weibo.com that the carrier would launch the iPhone 5 in September.

If we look at Apple’s previous iPhone launch schedules, US gets the new iPhone first followed by Japan and few countries in Europe within in first month. Other countries get the new iPhone as the production and demand comes to equilibrium, which is normally after first three months. If China is getting the iPhone 5 in September that would mean that Apple is trying to achieve what they normally do in first three months of iPhone launch, in just first 30 days of iPhone 5 launch. This would indicate that US will get the iPhone 5 in August and the initial large order would allow Apple to roll out iPhone 5 in other 20 major markets within first 30 days.

In MacBook Air related news, stocks of MacBook Air are dwindling before the rumored update. Both Best Buy and Amazon show limited stocks of both 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air model. Best Buy’s website has stopped shipping the MacBook Air, while their stores have very limited stock. Similarly, Amazon is running low in MacBook Air stocks in multiple countries. This is an indication that MacBook Air update is coming soon and we have heard that we will see the new models in 7-10 days. There is even a possibility that we will see the update tomorrow.

Now for some LTE iPad news, leaked AT&T documents about LTE network deployment show that AT&T has already started testing LTE iPad and LTE iPhone testing should start soon. The document stated “Testing will include iPad new activation HLS using the new rate plan, as well as a regression on netbooks and dongles.” Further down in the document AT&T mentions that smartphones will be part of LTE Phase 2 deployment and iPhone migration will be part of phase 2.

The dates in the document indicate that LTE iPad testing began in February 2011 and LTE iPhone testing should start in July/September 2011. This would mean that next iPad update that is rumored to come in Q4 2011 will support LTE network and iPhone update that will come in 2012 will also bring LTE support.
