iPhone 4 Arrives Early, But won’t Activate for Some Customers

Many iPhone pre-order customers are reporting that their iPhone 4 have already arrived two days before the actual launch date. However, some of the customers are also reporting that their phones won’t activate and AT&T has told them that it would take until tomorrow to start the activation process. Apple announced a day after they started taking pre-orders for the new iPhone 4 that they have received over 600,000 handset pre-orders in less than 24 hours. All the customers who ordered their handset on 15th June should receive the new handset on or before 24th June launch date.

There are also reports that some customers were actually able to activate their new handset and have posted video recorded with the new iPhone 4 on YouTube (video below). It is believed that the early deliver of the iPhone 4 pre-orders is designed to decrease load on AT&T’s server for the launch day.

In other iPhone related news, AT&T has official announced that due to strong demand it will not have any iPhone 4 units for sale in stores until June 29th. In a statement released by AT&T the company says:

  • Preordered for home or business delivery: iPhone 4 will begin arriving this week for customers who preordered. We’ll send an email when each order has shipped.
  • Preordered for store delivery: AT&T retail representatives will begin calling customers this week to let them know their iPhone 4 is available for pick up in store.
  • Retail purchase (no preorder): AT&T plans to have iPhone 4 inventory – available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last – on June 29 in its retail locations, at www.att.com, and in business sales channels. As inventory sells out, AT&T will offer the convenient option of purchasing iPhone 4 and having it delivered to a home or business or an AT&T store. As always, customers will receive an email once their order is placed, and again when it ships.
