Palm announced their new handset “Pre” at CES 2009 in January this year. Palm Pre had smitten the tech world instantaneously with its slide-out QWERTY keyboard and the new interface. Pre comes with 3.1-inch 320 x 480 multitouch screen, 3-megapixel camera, 8GB onboard memory, 3G EVDO Rev A, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Pre will use Palm’s new Linux based operating system called webOS. The new OS features layered calendars, linked contacts, Synergy, Activity cards, intuitive notifications, combined messaging, universal search and support for various audio/video formats.

Palm Pre will start shipping on June 6th via Sprint and reviews for the device have started flooding in. Most reviews say Pre is a very good device and first true iPhone competitor. Hardware-wise Pre is ok, but its new webOS shines bright. Walt Mossberg of Wall Street Journal puts it the best “All in all, I believe the Pre is a smart, sophisticated product that will have particular appeal for those who want a physical keyboard. It is thoughtfully designed, works well and could give the iPhone and BlackBerry strong competition – but only if it fixes its app store and can attract third-party developers. “
