Intel Showcases Dual Core Atom Processor for Netbooks and Oak Trail Chipset for TabletSubmitted by lalit on June 2, 2010 - 7:18pm.
At Computex 2010, Intel introduced first dual core Atom processor codenamed “Pine Trail” for netbooks along with “Oak Trail” platform optimized for tablets and sleek netbook form factors. Intel also demoed the world’s thinnest netbook running on the upcoming Pine Trail dual core Atom processor. At 14mm, the razor-thin netbook codenamed “Canoe Lake” runs cooler and is 50 percent thinner than any other netbook consumers can find on the market today. Intel says netbook makers can use the Canoe Lake as a reference design to make sleek netbooks. Pine Trail processor should ship before holidays and systems based on the processor should come to the market in Q4 2010. Intel has its eyes set on the tablet market also and will address that market with a system on chip (SoC) solution based on Intel Atom processor, which is codenamed “Oak Trail”. The SoC is designed and optimized for sleek tablet and netbook designs, delivering up to a 50 percent reduction in average power consumption with full HD-video playback. The “Oak Trail” platform will support MeeGo, Windows 7 and Google operating systems when it ships in early 2011. On the handheld side, Intel is demoing Moorestown based devices running Android 2.1 at Computex 2010. No word yet on when Moorestown processors will ship, but the device shown by Intel looked production ready. We have two video below showing Android based smartphone and MeeGo based tablet that Intel demoed.
