Qualcomm Announces 1.3GHz Snapdragon Chip for SmartphonesSubmitted by lalit on June 1, 2009 - 2:44pm.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips are the fastest ARM based processor available on the market. Present generation processor can run up to 1GHz while consuming a fraction of energy required to run an Intel Atom processor. On Sunday, Qualcomm announced that it is adding new 1.3GHz chip to Snapdragon lineup. The new chip will be made using 45nm process technology and it will be aimed at smartphones and smartbooks market. Qualcomm says, “Utilizing 45nm process technology also allows power consumption improvements such as up to 30 percent lower dynamic power over previous generation Snapdragon products and an unmatched standby power of less than 10 millwatts.” The new chip will be 30 percent faster and will have enhanced multimedia and 2D/3D graphics. As Qualcomm is using 45nm manufacturing technology the overall chip package will also be smaller. Qualcomm will start sampling the new 1.3GHz Snapdragon QSD8650A chipset before end of 2009. Manufacturers like Asus, Compal, Foxconn, HTC, Toshiba and Wistron will introduce products based on the chipset in early 2010.
