Last week, Microsoft unveiled their new Bing Search Engine with a promise of worldwide launch by 3rd June 2009. Microsoft came to the party early and Bing search engine is now live. On the Bing website, Microsoft does mention that it is the preview (beta) release, but the search results and the speed of the website is really good. It is almost as fast as Google, however, because of the graphical nature of the website it is just slightly slower than Google. The difference really shows up on mobile devices like the iPhone.
The arrangement of the search results is very clean and easy to understand. In fact, we felt in some cases like searching for reviews and pricing of products the Bing engine was doing slightly better job than Google search engine. As for the video search we found that Google provided more information about the video. On the other hand, Bing played the video directly in the search result when you place you cursor over the video, which was annoying sometimes. Overall, Bing when compared to Microsoft Live Search impressed us. Bing has definitely narrowed the gap between Google and Live Search.
