Bucketload of iPhone Rumors: From Storage Capacities on New iPhone to All the New iPhone SoftwareSubmitted by lalit on June 1, 2009 - 5:19pm.
With WWDC 2009 less than a week away, iPhone rumors are increasing exponentially. Last week, we reported about the matte finish casing for next gen iPhone, however today we have lot more to report. Before putting all down, we would just says that these are all rumors and we weren’t able to confirm any, but it is becoming more and more likely that most of these rumors will come true. Lets start on the software side first, On Sunday images were leaked on a Chinese blog showcasing new features that upcoming iPhone will have. The two images above show autofocus feature on the new iPhone camera and the new compass application that will use magnetometer. The blog had other pictures showing iPhone’s ability to take better picture at night and new CPU activity monitor. But the first two pictures were most important, because they not only showed new software, but also new hardware (magnetometer and autofocus camera) that Apple will add to upcoming iPhone. Also on the software side, Computer World is reporting that Safari on iPhone 3.0 will include Geolocation feature. Safari browser will allow GPS enabled webpages to use GPS coordinates of the iPhone like it does with other application. So if you are searching for restaurant or bank branch in Safari web browser on iPhone, it will automatically give information relevant to your current location without putting the zip code or address in the search. Now on the hardware side, Engadget is reporting that they have heard from a trusted source that new iPhone in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities just got approval from PCS Type Review Certification Board. PCS certifies handset for carriers like AT&T. Engadget further adds that if true this could mean Apple will introduce at least two iPhone models this summer. This actually fits with what our sources have been tell us about Apple’s plan to have at least two distinct iPhone models before end of 2009. BGR is also reporting that one of their Fido ninjas has provided them with some exclusive snaps of what is reportedly the entire roadmap for the rest of 2009. One of the phones in carrier’s 2009 roadmap is a 4GB iPhone for $99. The phone has quadband GSM, triband HSDPA, 2-megapixel camera, 4GB internal memory and surprisingly video calling via iChat. The last iPhone related information comes from Best Buy, the retailer has issued a memo indicating that iPhone 3G is in short supply. In fact Best Buy’s website shows that they are out of stock on both 16GB and 8GB models. Like last year, Apple has stopped making iPhone 3G just before introduction of next gen iPhone to clear out inventory. Our sources are very sure that we will see the next gen iPhone at WWDC next week and Apple will start shipping the new models in July. Just six more days until we find out complete details about upcoming iPhone models.
