AMD Reveals 2010 Mobile and Desktop Processor RoadmapSubmitted by lalit on May 13, 2010 - 4:14pm.
AMD revealed their mobile and desktop platform for 2010 that focuses on combining graphics (VISION Technology) and CPU power to offer better performance than comparable Intel systems. On the notebook side, AMD 2010 Mainstream Notebook Platform and 2010 Ultrathin Notebook platform will both offer HD playback, sleek form factor, video/photo editing and up to eight hours of battery life. According to AMD, the examples of benefits the platforms provide to consumer include the following:
The notebook processor lineup will include three quad core processors, two triple core processors, nine dual core processors and three single core processors. Clock speed will range from 1.2GHz to 3.1GHz and TDP will range from 9W to 45W. The four most interesting processors in the lineup are quad core 2.0GHz N930 with 35W TDP, quad core 1.6GHz P920 with 25W TDP, triple core 2.1GHz N830 and triple core 1.8GHz P820 with 25W TDP. As these four processors can in theory offer better performance to power ratio than comparable Intel processors. Intel has no triple core processors and all of their quad core processors have TDP of 45W. On desktop side also AMD will focus on combining CPU and Graphics power to offer better performance at lower price. AMD will release dual and quad core processors under Athlon II range for mainstream desktop, and quad and six core processors under Phenom II range for enthusiasts. Graphics on the desktop platform will be handled by ATI Radeon HD 5000 series or higher discrete graphics with support for DirectX 11 and ATI Eyefinity multi-display technology. According to AMD, examples of the benefits the desktop platforms provide to consumers include the following:
Systems featuring these notebook and desktop platforms with VISION Technology from AMD will be available beginning today and through the end of the year from original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and System Integrators including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI and Toshiba.
